Develop North, in partnership with Metro Imaging and Aberdeen City Council, are excited to announce our first Open Air Photography Exhibition – ‘To the North’, in the heart of Aberdeen City Centre, from 27th June – 17th July 2016.
As part of last October’s inaugural Develop North Photography Festival at Gray’s School of Art, an open-call was held for submissions of contemporary photography that examines the experience of North. Entrants responded to current political, social or cultural interests, as well as poetic, conceptual and critical perceptions of what it is to experience the ‘North’. All interpretations were valid. We welcomed entries from professionals and enthusiasts from across the northern hemisphere and were thrilled to receive entries from close to home and as far afield as Scandinavia, Northern Europe and Russia. Through photography, we are looking to explore an intrinsic, shared an understanding of the qualities of northerly life, sharing unique understandings of these northern environments with one another.
Over 500 entries were received, with 25 finalists then selected by a panel of professionals from Gray’s School of Art and printed by our friends at Metro Imaging. The free exhibition is located on St Nicholas Street in the busy heart of Aberdeen and will run from 17th June – 17th July.
